In Memory of Roy Correia

In Memory of

Roy Correia

On Friday, January 22nd, the Greater Lowell community lost a loving father, husband, friend and coach.  Roy Correia passed away unexpected leaving behind his wife Melissa, his three children, Tristan, Ashton, Mykaela, as well as many other family and friends.  For years, the Correia’s were a large part of the GLYSA family.  Roy served on the Board of Directors and played a huge role in the growth of our programs.  Countless families can credit their children’s start in the great world of hockey to Roy - and many of them are still playing today on our Peewee and Bantam teams.  Roy will always be remembered for his “forever smile”, and his easy going nature; often replying with “Just living the dream”, when asked how he was doing.  He could always be seen at the Janas Rink wearing shorts, regardless of the subzero temperatures and blizzard conditions.  Many times, his UPS truck would be seen in the parking lots of local hockey rinks, as he  made every attempt to see each of his son’s hockey games.  Throughout the years, Roy served as GLYSA’s Equipment Manager and was the man behind our “Colorado Avalanche White jerseys” which our Hawks wore for many years before retiring them at the end of last season.   He will be remembered for years as being the crazy party guy - hanging out in the hotel hallways during Hockey Tournaments and keeping the party going long into the night, regardless of the early games the next morning.

The GLYSA family offers our heartfelt condolences to the entire Correia family for their loss.   Roy’s commitment to Youth Sports in the Greater Lowell Community will never be forgotten, and we will always be thankful for the memories we have.

Arrangements:  Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects on Thursday, January 28th from 4-8 pm at the Dracut Funeral Home (2159 Lakeview Ave, Dracut).  His funeral will take place from the funeral home on Friday at 9AM with his funeral Mass to follow at 10AM at St. Anthony’s Church in Lowell.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Washington Savings Bank, 100 Broadway Road, Dracut MA 01826 to the Roy Correia Family Fund to help benefit his children.  GoFundMe donations can also be made through https://www.gofundme.com/uax9bbwk

Online Payment Instructions

If you elect to make your 2015-16 payments online, below are the instructions to do so.   Otherwise, please mail a check, made payable to GLYSA, to:

GLYSA

PO Box 1536

Lowell, MA 01852

Log into your account by clicking on TEAM, followed by edit my account.  From here, it will ask for your e-mail and password.  (If you don't know or forgot your password, click the login button and a new one will be e-mailed to you). Once logged in, you will see your account balance(s).

If making payments using a debit card, GLYSA would appreciate your help in reducing transaction fees by having you use "Bank Transfer" instead of visa or master card.  GLYSA gets charged a percentage fee for every credit card payment made.  We would like to avoid having to charge a "convenience fee" as other organizations do, so we ask that you consider using your checking account as opposed to your debit card for payments.

To do this, after choosing the amount you wish you pay, please select "bank transfer". From here you will be prompted to create a Dwolla account (our credit card payment processing website).  You will be asked to provide your checking account routing number and account number.  Dwolla will verify your account and you will be able to make payments directly from your checking account.

GLYSA shares your concerns about security when entering this information onto a website.  Dwolla assures us that your information is secure and will never be shared. Unlike paper checks or credit card transactions, your financial information is not transmitted when making payments, limiting the threat of possible identity theft.  To read more about Dwolla, please visit:
